Stashalong--Sign ups end Jan.1

Sign ups have ended.

EDIT: Sign ups end January 1 at 5pm Mountain time.

Anyone interested in using some of your stash in order to make room for some new spring stuff? Join me in a very informal knitalong. Here are the rules:

(1) Must start and try to finish something from your stash yarn(I say "try" to finish because if you pick something huge like an afghan or sweater finishing in three months may not be realistic).

(2) You have 3 months and during that time you cannot add to your stash in any way(things ordered before January 1 but not yet delivered do not count--hence the early warning--get it out of your systems, ladies). Of course realistically there is no way to police this, so the honor system is in place.

(3) I am beginning on January 1, 2006 and ending March 31, 2006(if there is interest, I'd be glad to start another one after that).

(4) Keep me posted on your progress and I will post it once a week--probably Mondays or Tuesdays.

I've never attempted to start a knitalong before but if you're interested leave me a comment and I'd be glad to add you to the list.

Some clarification is in order:

(1) If you are buying yarn in order to finish a charitable project(to be completed within the Stashalong time frame), it's okay.
(2) If you have to get a ball of yarn to finish a project already on the needles because you ran out of said yarn and you intend to finish said project by the end of Stashalong, that's okay.
(3) If you have to buy yarn for a Secret Pal or gift(for someone else), that's okay.
(4) If you receive yarn as a gift(from a Secret Pal or other), it's okay.
(5) If you are buying yarn for yourself and it doesn't qualify in any of the above, it's NOT okay.

Laura graciously made us two buttons--therefore even though she is not participating in the Stashalong, she is still an honorary member--thank you, thank you, thank you. And miracle of all miracles I actually got the .gif images to post without major problems--this is a HUGE milestone for me--hee hee :)

Deena also gave us a great button to use--thanks so much!!!!

**if you would like the button, please save it to your own server first. If you don't like it feel free to make your own as I have very remedial talent with it :)**

Hm, I'd be down with a stashalong! Especially since I have actually returned to knitting a bit finally. :) Sign me up! :) I make no commitments to finishing things, but the glorious stash is calling my name...

I'll stashalong with you too. I'm trying to make a hat out of some Iro & maybe some bags out of bunches of recycled silk I have - but who knows what I will actually end up with!

Count me in too! Although I do have yarn on hold at the LYS that since I have a job again, I will be buying that, but that's all the yarn I'm planning to purchase!

I would love to Stashalong...my husband will be thrilled that I am actively NOT buying yarn for 3 months. I have at least 15 projects on needles, or ready to jump on needles.

I've decided to do the same thing. I've got a great stash and lots of projects that I'm anxious to finish. First up... the Color on Colour scarf. I want to have it finished by the next Tattered Cover get-together, if I can. The only yarn that I'll be buying in the foreseeable future will be for class samples (that's work, not pleasure), and a ball for my Travel Afghan (trip in February). Count me in!

I'd love to join your KAL, but unfortunately, I don't have a stash yet! (I know, how sad is that?) I'm trying my darndest to build one up, though!! Some wonderful Christmas loot has helped in that department, but I'm too sentimental to use it right away. I'll be cheering you ladies on, though, and I can't wait to see all the great FO's you produce with your collective stashes! Take care, Kim! :-)

Though my next two projects are definitely coming out of my stash (a mobius for Mom, socks for me), I can't promise that I won't buy any more yarn for three entire months! LOL But, I made a couple of buttons for you to share. If you like them, please upload them to your server before use. :-)
This one: button 1
And this one (transparent, and looks better on a dark background): button 2

P.S. I hope these links work... If not, I'll get them to you some other way, Kim.

I in for certain. My goal is actually "the year of stash" but three months at a time seems the best way to keep on track. :D Let me know if there's anything I can do to help out with getting everything set up.

Sign me up. I've stash to trash.

If the Stashalong goes into a second 3-month cycle, it's going to be a big challenge. Estes Park is in mid-June. Think: Brooks Farm!!

Kim said...

Joanne, I think that if we did go another 3 months we would have to add the ability to take one or two days off for "stash enhancement"--I just want to get through the first three months and see where I am at after that LOL :)

Norma said...

Oh, I'll definitely stashalong with you. I'll pick up a button later today, when I have the time.

I'm in. In, in, in. Knitting up some stash is one of my New Year's resolutions.

Add my name to the list please!! I have a number of projects that have been bitting at my heels for a while now :) I could use the room, too! My stash may be small, but my apartment is smaller!

Chris said...

Add me to the list - thanks!

Um, can I ask a stupid question? I love the avatar thing, but I'm not seeing an obvious way to link it to my blog. Anyone have tips? Thanks!

Just the thing I need. Please count me in.

I am so there! I am new to blogging, but not to knitting, or COLLECTING YARN. I wonder if three months is long enough to even make a dent....Ronda

Could you add me to the stashalong, please.

I definitely want to join in. If I don't do some reduction I'll be forced to start sleeping on yarn.

Hello,
I found this stash along through another blog and would love to participate :) My stash is taking over my house (and paycheck) :)
I'm into lace knitting mostly, but have a few sweaters on the needles too!

Cheers Eva

I can knit from the stash but do I get kicked out if I buy more?
My Christmas gift certificate might help me stay on track.

zeusstrik said...

Let me in too... I have too many projects waiting and I need someone ( perhaps more than one:O)) get a hold on me before I'm drowning in my stash.

I NEED to join. I have some Berocco mohair that is almost 4 yrs old. I am determined to knit a blanket out of it this year but it might take more then 3 months

Chris said...

Hi....I think that I may need to join you. My stash is beginning to get completely out of control.

I admire each and every one of you for being able to do a 3 month stashalong... I can't join in on this one. Can I help by saying that I haven't set foot in a yarn store for 8 weeks? (Shoulder injury and being on the road for a month will do that to a person...)
Good luck to all. Can I still watch from the sidelines???

Lauren said...

Is it too late to join? I saw this on another blog, and I could really use some discipline right about, 3 months ago! I'm totally ready, my last splurge was this morning.

Sign me up please. :)

I definitely need to be on this list! I gathered all of my yarn in one place to store it in one bin, so i could easily find what I needed. I ended up with to very large bins of yarn. How could this happen 8-)? Joining the stash along and going on a yarn diet (sigh) will help me make room for more yarn (psyche!!)

Brianne said...

Well, I shall be joining you as well! I'm really excited, actually, as it will hopefully help me get some projects done that I've already purchased yarn for but get distracted from.

I'm taking three classes at my LYS through Jan, Feb and Mar, so I'm glad to hear that I can buy yarn for those projects.

Wooohoo! Let's get started!

I am in a joining mood... must be something to do with the holidays. Please, please, sign me up. Must stop buying more yarn!

My blog is at www.whitecorolla.com/wordpress I wasn't able to comment with that address.

Add me to the list too! I'm knitting Martha (Rowan Felted Tweed) from stash, but only just started so it needs a bit of help! I do have some Debbie Bliss on the way, so I'm admitting to that right here and now. Thanks!

I want to join, too! I just found out now, so I guess I'm right under the wire. Better go order those last 3 things I need, and then I have plenty of yarn for 3 months (or years, probably!).

I'd love to join this knitalong. It is just what I need. I have 3 huge bins of yarn that I need to start working through.

I made a cute knitalong button that I will email to you!

Ooooo, glad I made it in under the wire. I REALLY need this KAL. Thanks!

K said...

Man - glad I found this before 5pm today!

I NEED to join this KAL too!

I did order some last stash pile-on stuff (but with specific projects in mind!) last night, but now have to do some work!

Have three projects on the needles - a self-designed vest for hubby, Wyvern Socks and a Seaman's scarf for me. Then I have two baby/youngster events coming up in the spring, so once that yarn gets here those are my next projects. Whew!

As me to the list. Oh, wait, we can buy yarn for other people, right? I do have yarn presents to buy but I think I can manage not to buy anything for myself.

Kat said...

Count me in. I'm tired of all those skeins of yarn mocking me.

Tam said...

Please count me in! I really need to get my stash under control and a knit along as extra incentive can't hurt. =)

(Sorry if I'm double-posting this as Blogger is giving me fits today...)

I would like to join . . . need to get that stash under control before it gets TOTALLY out of had like my fabric stash has. hehehe

Amber said...

Count me in! The problem is that I'm going back to college in two weeks and I really can't bring my whole stash with me. So I'm going to split it into two stashes:

1) Yarn with patterns

2) Yarn I have no clue what to do with.

And I'll take my pratice-roving with me to school. That way I won't be tempted to bring my nice shawl-roving with.

I was away for the holidays and missed the Stashalong sign ups. Guess what? I'm joining anyways! :D

Becky said...

I missed the deadline to sign up, but will be an unofficial member. There will be a short step off the wagon this month, though, due to a sock-of-the-quarter group I belong to. I promise to be good after that.

Mary-Lou said...

Sorry I missed your deadline - have only just found you thanks to Norma - but please bear me in mind for the next one if you decide to do it again

jeannie said...

Rats! I found you just today. Probably just as well because I have to buy yarn at the Fiber Arts Fiesta here in March or April; there is Great "No Boundaries" yarn at Walmart that's not going to be restocked (promotional only), and clearnace yarn on the internet to buy.... I still have square inches of space to fill in my stash closet. : )
Seriously, I'm going to be using up stash till the Fiesta anyway.

KUDOS, KUDOS on the NANOWRIMO. I wanted to do that and missed That deadline too.
Well, next time.
Take Care.
Jeannie
