More Barn Raising

Image
I have been working on squares while watching the NHL playoffs. Clockwise from the top left: Shibui Knits sock, Pagewood Farms Sock bites, Pagewood Farms sock bites, Pagewood Farms sock bites The purple square ran out of yarn with about 3 rows left so I threw on a super tiny sock bite in green. One bad thing about the sock bite bags is that there are tons of bits that are just about too small to do anything with. I am off to get ready for our upcoming snowstorm. I'm hoping it's a false alarm but from the looks of things outside I am not optimistic.

Been Working on the Barn

Raising blanket, that is. Guided tour(top row, left to right) Pagewood Farms Sock Bite, Dream in Color Starry, STR Lightweight Opal Harry Potter, Red Rocks Fiber Works(from Stacey), Three Irish Girls Sock STR Medium Weight, Red Rocks Fiber Works, Pagewood Farms Sock Bite Pagewood Farms Sock Bite, Colinette Jitterbug I am probably going to keep cranking out squares to make one giant blanket instead of the two I was originally planning. Right now I have over 50 squares.

Knitted in March

1. Diva's Fingerless gloves 2. 2.5 Barn Raising squares(pictured one in my leftover Clapotis yarn and one in my Three Irish Girls yarn which also doubles as a project towards Project Spectrum 4).

Going Back to the Barnyard

I went shopping in my stash today and pulled out this: I am going to use it for a few Barn Raising squares in honor of Project Spectrum, March, St. Patrick's Day, and Little Diva(she's the reason I picked this specific yarn). It's from Three Irish Girls and it's much more vibrant in person. **a knitting finish is coming tomorrow**

Barn Raising--2008

The final group of squares for the year. This project isn't finished but it's about halfway there :) These five squares I finished randomly since I last posted about the blanket. Here's the big picture: Happy New Year everyone!

Barn Raising--the July Edition

Image
Here's the monthly update on the Barn Raising front. This is the big picture(so to speak). All the squares I've made to date stacked up. This picture is a little dark but these are the squares I knit for Diva and I this month. **clockwise from top: STR Sherbet(Diva), Cherry Tree Hill(me), Skully square/STR Rook-y(me, because I made all mine to trade and didn't have one left for me), and RRFW Burning Rubber(me). These are squares I got from Stacey and Wanda in exchange for a couple of Skullys(now I just need one from Miss Cynthia and I'll be all set--no hurry though). Finally, these are squares for Stacey's Dad. **clockwise from top: STR Ruby Slippers, STR Jasper, Great Adirondack in Cranberry Bog, and Opal. I will not get as much done in August because school starts and I have some stitching and socks I want to work on :)

Barn Raising--The Belated June Edition

Image
I finished 9 squares in June. I had to have 9 of these squares done in time for our CWKK weekend, so that I could exchange them with everyone who was participating. Here are the squares I received: (clockwise from top left: Jeni , Terrie , Kelly , Genia, Mary Kay , and Michelle --thanks ladies!) In addition, I finished two more(the bright pink one is actually from Stacey for Little Diva's blanket).

Back to the Barnyard

It's the monthly update on the Barn Raising Quilts. I got through 10 squares this month. I finished my experiment on exactly how many squares you can get out of one skein of lightweight Socks That Rock. The answer is almost six--as in I was one row and the bind off away from six. If you were really frugal with your ends, you could probably get six. I needed to know this because I have to make a bunch of squares to exchange with members of the knitting crew. I decided to use STR in the Rook-y colorway and of course I could not leave it at that. I added beads to mine in the shape of, you guessed it, a skull. So June will be the Skully square month as I have to have at least nine of them done by the end of the month. Current Square Tally-- STR quilt square stats(10/42): Algae(traded 1 Lucy for it)--1 Lucy(lightweight)--5 Tres Campy(Hello Yarn)--1 Fire on the Mountain(lightweight)--1 Nodding Violet(mediumweight)--1 Lapis(lightweight)--1 STR skully squares(2/9): Rook-y(lightweight)--2 *...

Barn Raisin'

Image
I have not been able to pull myself away from my Barn Raising squares. I gave my first 10 a bath yesterday and pseudo blocked them. Here's Barn Raising Quilt 1(aka. the primarily Socks that Rock quilt): **clockwise from top left--Algae, Lucy, Nodding Violet, Fire on the Mountain, Tres Campy(a lone Hello Yarn square). Barn Raising Quilt 2(aka. Diva's/communal family leftover quilt): I am going to TRY and knit on something else as well--I've got socks and things to finish people!

Barn Raising Love/Possible Addiction

Image
As my stash is not really loaded with bright colors(which Diva is all about) I had to get a few skeins of stuff to brighten up her Barn Raising Blanket which I'm thinking will actually turn into the TV room Barn Raising Blanket--meaning it's for her, DH, and Rage--we'll see how that one goes over later. Otherwise I'll need to make a couple more blankets at some point(and no they probably won't all be this pattern). There are 4 skeins of ShiBuiKnits Sock and 1 skein of Pagewood Farm Hand Dyed Sock yarn(the cotton candy pink one). Why I love the Barn Raising Quilt : **I have been wanting something to do with my sock yarn leftovers and my substantial sock yarn stash. **the squares are easy to knit--perfect for knitting group knitting and TV time. **the squares are portable **it's fun to see how sock yarn patterns when it's used this way **it is something that will last longer than a sock does **it's something everyone can see, whereas sometimes socks are un...
