Knitter in Progress

Kelly tagged me with this one and honestly I'm surprised she can type after her garter stitch knitting frenzy this weekend ;) I am to open a book I am currently reading to page 161 and copy the fifth sentence on the page. "Could a search be set in motion with so little information to go on?"-- The Thirteenth Tale (Setterfield). Normally I'm not about tagging people--especially since I don't know if everyone out there reads(which you should be--it's way better than TV, especially with the stike and all). But here goes: Wanda , The Knitty Professor , Laura , Jeni , and Mary Kay . So, ladies, put down those knitting needles long enough to open a book, pretty please!

I was recruited to knit some squares for a baby blanket. The clock is ticking until delivery day and this little girl can't come into the world without her own knitted blankie, so here's my contribution to Baby A's blankie: I can't wait to see the finished product!

I'm teaching my neighbor(who's 10) how to knit and we decided to start with a dishcloth/washcloth. I gave her her first knitting bag, notions, yarn, and needles. And she picked this pattern . I don't think it's a beginner pattern at all--I mean, who would want to start knitting with a TON of seed stitch?--BUT it's what she wanted to do. She's still plugging away on the first 10 rows, but I finished my example for her. Little Diva has claimed this as her own(and it is a very Diva colorway).

This is the second of the two SALs I'm involved in this year. This piece has been in my WIP pile for quite some time. Stats: Pattern: Provence Sampler(Butternut Road) Fabric: 18 Count Cream Wool, Wichelt Floss: Flame Caron Watercolors Stitched: 1 over 2 I haven't stitched over 2 threads in a long time--those stitches felt HUGE! I love the color but I'm a little worried because I didn't prerinse my threads so I'm not sure if I'll be able to wash it when I finish--not that that will be a problem for a while. In other news, I went with my neighbor to see Sweeney Todd last night. I love most of Tim Burton's stuff and this movie was no exception--what a great cast. I'm just glad I didn't eat before I went because between the blood and the bodies falling down the chute headfirst I thought I was going to puke.

Over at the HAED BB there is going to be yet another Stitchalong Challenge(remember I worked on Misty Weniera for last year's SAL). This year I have moved Little Diva's piece to the SAL Challenge spot, so I can guarantee I get work done on it. Stats: Pattern: QS Swimming with Dolphins(Tate) Fabric: 28 count white evenweave Stitched: 2 over 1, tent I didn't get as much done as I had planned but I managed to fill in some spaces in the top and start working my way to the bottom of the page. Although the picture doesn't do it justice(it's overcast here today), the colors are very vibrant--not my usual M.O. I guess that's why it's for my daughter ;)

Stats: Yarn: Red Rocks Fiber Works, Red Tulip(MK's name for this colorway)but in my mind it's more like Garnet/Dragon's Blood Needles: size 2 dpns Pattern: I love Gansey, Six Sox Knitalong ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I wish that I could regale you with tales today about all the crafting I have accomplished since my last post, but I can't because we have been dealing with the viral plague caused by some bizzaro germ here at Casa KIP. Within about 48 hours Rage, Diva, and I all succumbed to the crazy cold on steroids. Luckily Rage and Diva only ran fevers but Mommy got that PLUS a raging cough and runny nose. It's good times, people. It really sucks for everyone when Mommy is sick, because all Mommy wants to do is go lay in bed and be left alone in her Nyquil induced stupor BUT the kiddos and the husband can't grasp that fact.
