Playoff Knitting Version 2.0

Image
Since I finished my Kai-Mei socks, I need something else to keep my fingers busy during my Pens games. I started another pair of socks from the Sock Innovation book. Originally I was going to use Mini Mochi yarn BUT it was not working out at all. The yarn is too fuzzy and loosely spun to work for socks like these. So I pulled out some Red Rocks Fiberworks yarn and now I'm in business. I wasn't sure about the pattern showing up with this yarn but I like the way it's knitting up. Stats: Pattern: Rick, Sock Innovation Needles: size 2 dpns Yarn: Red Rocks Fiberworks

I got three new bags for my Barn Raising squares and sock knitting. And a close up--just because I like the patterns so much :) I got all three from Zigzagstitches and I'd highly recommend them. The bags are very well made, a fair price, and they ship quickly :) I love mine! The chicken bag cracks me up every time I see it.

Weekend Knitting

Image
This turned into a very productive knitting weekend for me. I think it was all the inspiration I gleaned from the Harlot's visit to Denver on Friday night. I finished one of the stabbing socks(as I now so lovingly refer to them). I made a lot of headway on it as I was waiting for the Harlot to speak. I was also inspired to start something else this weekend. The Barn Raising Quilt from the Knitalong book. This is going to be quite an addictive pattern. My plan is to make a blanket entirely out of Socks that Rock but I started out with a couple of practice squares from my bag of sock scraps which Diva informed me would be great for a blanket for her to watch TV under, SO this project may turn into two blankets instead of one--it's not like I don't have enough sock yarn for about 15 of them ;) I think what I am really enjoying about it is that I can whip off a square while sitting and watching TV and since the pattern is so easy to memorize and the squares are so portable it i...

There Something in the Air

Yet another new start. Completely spur of the moment without my usual "justify what you are starting" conversation with myself. First I saw this pattern , then I got my hands on some Dream in Color Smooshy in the Deep Seaflower colorway(which is REALLY difficult to photograph), and before I knew it I found myself here: A few things about this "new-start-itis" thing concern me. 1. What's with all the out of character impulse starting? I honestly believe there is something in the air. 2. What's with the crazy desire I have right now to cast on about 5 more pairs of socks? I was burnt out on socks for a while but apparently I have gotten past it. 3. Will I be able to rein these new impulses in and actually finish some stuff? The new-start-itis bug has not been limited to my knitting either. I am fighting major impulses to start more than one cross stitch piece AND for the first time since college I am reading more than one book at a time(I usually like to savor...

The Road to Hell is paved with--

--new starts. Now don't get me wrong. I love a new start as much as the next person. Whether it be cross stitch or knitting, there is something about the blank canvas. Casting on, starting to stitch. . .there is always a thrill there. It's a siren song that few, if any, of us are immune to. This month I wanted to work "red" and make a dent in my already overflowing WIP pile(knitting and stitching). But the other night, before I even knew what was going on, I had cast on the Bird in Hand mittens. Here's the progress so far: I'm going to do the other one in the opposite colors--just to spice things up a bit. Not that stranded knitting of any type needs a lot of spicing up. This weekend will be a stitching weekend--after knitting tonight, of course. Then I will make every effort to get back to my red stitching, maybe--once I do a few more rows on that mitten ;)

Stitching Weekly

I got the kiddos to bed last night and spent some time on Little Diva's Swimming with Dolphins while watching Prisoner of Azkaban(I NEVER get tired of that movie--I think Order of the Phoenix will be the same once I get it on DVD). Here's the result: I also managed to get out over the weekend and buy this: Isn't it pretty? Click away on the picture to see what all that floss will turn into. I need a new start like I need a hole in the head but I've been wanting to try a monochromatic chart and I love this one.
