A Book Meme

I haven't done a meme in a while and I came across this one( here ), so here we go. First Lines Meme The rules: 1. Pick 10 of your favorite books 2. Post the first sentence of each book. (If one sentence seems too short, post two or three!) 3. Let everyone try to guess the titles and authors of your books! ========================================================================== **Let me preface this by saying these are favorites in no particular order and, in all honesty, my favorite books change a lot--so I guess this would be more of "my 10 favorites as I write this" kind of thing ;) 1. "Harry Potter was a highly unusual boy in many ways." 2. "Call me Insomniac." It's three A.M. and as usual, I'm awake, wandering around my New York apartment." 3. "Even if you don't care to travel, if you're a knitter, you're on a journey to an amazing land." 4. "I was dreaming of cool flesh and sheets the color of fresh blood...

Booking Through Thursday

While acknowledging that we can’t judge books by their covers, how much does the design of a book affect your reading enjoyment? Hardcover vs. softcover? Trade paperback vs. mass market paperback? Font? Illustrations? Etc.? First, I need to disagree with part of the first question. I know we shouldn't judge a book by its cover but I can't possibly be the only person who does?! If I am just wandering around the library or bookstore with no particular book in mind, a cover most definitely sways my opinion on the book. If I don't like the cover, sometimes I don't even pick up the book to check it out. Now if it is an author that I already love, that's a different story. I couldn't even tell you what are on the covers of my favorite books; titles and authors are all I remember. Hardcover vs. soft cover: I have to say that given the choice I am a hardcover person. I love the way they look, the way they feel, the thickness of the pages, all of it. That being said I d...

I'm Flattered :)

Image
I am always surprised when I get comments(or that anyone besides a few people actually read what I put out here) and today I was even more surprised, and extremely flattered, that two people( Michelle and Laura ) said my blog is one of the one's that "makes their day". Thanks ladies--that really made my day :) The Rules: Give the award to 10 people whose blogs bring you happiness and inspiration and make you feel happy about blogland. Let them know by posting a comment on their blog so they can pass it on. Beware you may get the award several times. So in that spirit here are my 10: 1. Michelle : I am so inspired by her stitching ability and speed. Her work is made even more impressive by the fact that she gets so much done with a new baby in the house! When I had my kids I didn't stitch at all until Rage was 3!) 2. Nicki : Nicki is another stitcher who inspires me every time she posts. Her WIPs are always stunning and she is fantastic at finishing. I am env...

I've Been Tagged!

Kelly tagged me with this one and honestly I'm surprised she can type after her garter stitch knitting frenzy this weekend ;) I am to open a book I am currently reading to page 161 and copy the fifth sentence on the page. "Could a search be set in motion with so little information to go on?"-- The Thirteenth Tale (Setterfield). Normally I'm not about tagging people--especially since I don't know if everyone out there reads(which you should be--it's way better than TV, especially with the stike and all). But here goes: Wanda , The Knitty Professor , Laura , Jeni , and Mary Kay . So, ladies, put down those knitting needles long enough to open a book, pretty please!

What Finger Are You?

Image
You Are the Thumb You're unique and flexible. And you defy any category. Mentally strong and agile, you do things your own way. And you do them well. You are a natural leader... but also truly a loner. You inspire many but connect with few. You get along well with: The Middle Finger Stay away from: The Pinky What Finger Are You? I do get along well with the Middle Finger--HA!

8 Things

I was tagged by Laura for this so here goes. The rules: 1. Each player starts with 8 random facts/habits about themselves. 2. People who are tagged write a blog post about their own 8 random things and post these rules. 3. At the end of your post you need to tag 8 people and include their names. 4. Don’t forget to leave them a comment and tell them they’re tagged, and to read your blog. Eight things about me: 1. I don't like to mix my food. For example I need to eat all my meat, then my veggies, then carbs. I can't take little bits from each. 2. When I have PMS I can't stand to listen to people chew or breathe or anything. It REALLY irritates me. 3. I don't have any patience for adults who act like children. Children(and by children I mean anyone grade 12 or younger) are allowed to act irrational and immature; adults are not. (I learned this when I used to work in a department store where you run into adults acting like children on a far too frequent basis.) 4. I'v...

Five Things

Laura tagged me for this, so here we go. Here are the rules: 1. Get tagged 2. List five things that have not been revealed on your blog 3. Tag five other people ***I taught aerobics and step aerobics for three years(and it was a blast!!) I even got to attend a certification class with Gin Miller. ***I only like green beans(any other kind of bean grosses me out). ***I always wanted to learn how to ride English. I've loved horses since I was little and my mother always thought I would die on such a big animal. ***I worked in the Costume Shop for my Theater Department when I was in college. I wish I learned more about design and stuff but we mostly spent our time doing temporary alterations to costumes--ie. quick fixes. ***The first record I had was the single "Tragedy" by the Bee Gees. Seriously, that is SOOOOOO not where my head is musically anymore. If you want to be tagged by my guest--I'm not sure who has done this and who has not.

What Tarot Card Are You?

Image
You are The Moon Hope, expectation, Bright promises. The Moon is a card of magic and mystery - when prominent you know that nothing is as it seems, particularly when it concerns relationships. All logic is thrown out the window. The Moon is all about visions and illusions, madness, genius and poetry. This is a card that has to do with sleep, and so with both dreams and nightmares. It is a scary card in that it warns that there might be hidden enemies, tricks and falsehoods. But it should also be remembered that this is a card of great creativity, of powerful magic, primal feelings and intuition. You may be going through a time of emotional and mental trial; if you have any past mental problems, you must be vigilant in taking your medication but avoid drugs or alcohol, as abuse of either will cause them irreparable damage. This time however, can also result in great creativity, psychic powers, visions and insight. You can and should trust your intuition. What Tarot Card are You? Tak...
