January Finishes

Image
I finished three Barn Raising squares this month. Clockwise from the top: Great Adirondack Soxie, Shibui, and Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sport(leftover from Diva's hat). I also finished this , but it's a Ravelry link because of the whole secrecy thing. ********************************* P90XLean: Plyometrics I love this one more and more every time I do it. It's a lot of jumping but I can feel my jumps getting higher and higher each time. I burned 513 calories.

First Finish of 2009

Image
While watching "Eagle Eye" with DH last night, I finished Rage's road cone orange hat and believe it or not DH wants one in the same color. Stats: Yarn: Cascade 220 Heathers Needles: size 8, addis and dpns Pattern: Knitters Handy Book of Patterns P90XLean--Day 6: Kenpo So, I have to say, I am not at all impressed with the "cardio" workouts in this series. I think I'm definitely going to start subbing my Cathe cardio DVDs on cardio days. I worked up a little bit of a sweat but it was so stop/start it was not really worth the hour I put in on it. I think these cardios might be good for days when you want to add another cardio later in the day.

Avast me Brethren and Beauties!

Tis Black Bess Cash here to regale you with tales from the pirate wench needles. Between me wenching and thieving I try to find the time to partake of this most glorious and honorable hobby you lubbers call knitting. Tis a banner day here as a new project has boarded the needles. Dyed with the blood of bilge rats who have crossed me, I am one repeat of eight into this epic quest. Going against me usual weapons of choice, I chose the large and threatening size 11 needle--smaller by a hair than me broad sword. Whether you be a jolly pirate or one who sails on the dark side, join the pirate revolution and partake in International Talk like a Pirate Day . Take me personal recommendation and peruse the New and Improved Pirate pick up lines .

Diva's Stabbing Socks are Fini

Image
I finished Diva's "Stabbing" socks as I so lovingly refer to them. As you can see they are fraternal. Diva doesn't care and it made them more interesting and less labor intensive to knit. Stats: Yarn: Opal Pattern: Classic Beginnings Socks for the Family(Wyman) Needles: size 2 dpns Now I have some squares to knit and I need to work on my cross stitch sampler. I hope all of you have something fun to keep you busy this weekend :)

Weekend Knitting

Image
This turned into a very productive knitting weekend for me. I think it was all the inspiration I gleaned from the Harlot's visit to Denver on Friday night. I finished one of the stabbing socks(as I now so lovingly refer to them). I made a lot of headway on it as I was waiting for the Harlot to speak. I was also inspired to start something else this weekend. The Barn Raising Quilt from the Knitalong book. This is going to be quite an addictive pattern. My plan is to make a blanket entirely out of Socks that Rock but I started out with a couple of practice squares from my bag of sock scraps which Diva informed me would be great for a blanket for her to watch TV under, SO this project may turn into two blankets instead of one--it's not like I don't have enough sock yarn for about 15 of them ;) I think what I am really enjoying about it is that I can whip off a square while sitting and watching TV and since the pattern is so easy to memorize and the squares are so portable it i...

Sock Knitting is Riddled with Danger People!

Image
I decided I was going to make a pair of socks for Diva(Rage and DH have requested a pair too) and she picked this lovely fluorescent Opal colorway. It's innocuous enough, right? Last night I sit down with Rage and Diva to watch Indiana Jones and start knitting away. Everything is going well until I drop one of my dpns and it goes into the recliner. It's happened before so I wasn't too stressed about it. I toss my knitting on the floor before climbing down myself to look under the chair. I can't see it right away but I hear it ping down to the floor. I reach around the chair for the lever to raise it so I can see under it and as I apply pressure to the lever I feel a sharp jab in my left knee. Do you want to take a guess as to what it was? It was one of the needles attached to sock that I threw on the floor. Apparently I was so focused on readjusting the chair that I didn't notice my knee coming down on the knitting. SO one of the dpns went INTO my leg--as in, about ...

Wee Tiny Sock Swap 2008

Image
I finished not one but two Wee Tiny Socks. The first was a practice sock. Just to get the feel of the needles. Stats: Pattern: Wee Tiny Sock pattern modified to 24 stitches and using the pattern repeat from the Show Off socks(which I think are only available on Ravelry?) Needles: size 0 bamboo dpns--I NEED to find short, metal size 0's because those bamboo things are now warped beyond recognition. I'm thankful I didn't break any though--that is a small miracle. Yarn: Cherry Tree Hill/Louet Gems fingering in Caribou Creek I would have been happy to send to that sock off BUT once I did a little friendly spying on my pal, I realized that she is really into green. Now this presents a problem for me who really does not have much green going on in the stash. I searched and searched and found yarn to make this: Stats: Pattern: Wee Tiny Sock modified with an Eye of Partridge heel Needles: Again with the flimsy 0's Yarn: Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in Turquoise(which i...

There Something in the Air

Image
Yet another new start. Completely spur of the moment without my usual "justify what you are starting" conversation with myself. First I saw this pattern , then I got my hands on some Dream in Color Smooshy in the Deep Seaflower colorway(which is REALLY difficult to photograph), and before I knew it I found myself here: A few things about this "new-start-itis" thing concern me. 1. What's with all the out of character impulse starting? I honestly believe there is something in the air. 2. What's with the crazy desire I have right now to cast on about 5 more pairs of socks? I was burnt out on socks for a while but apparently I have gotten past it. 3. Will I be able to rein these new impulses in and actually finish some stuff? The new-start-itis bug has not been limited to my knitting either. I am fighting major impulses to start more than one cross stitch piece AND for the first time since college I am reading more than one book at a time(I usually like to savor...

Hold on to Your Hats ;)

Image
I finally finished something and it's knitting--can you believe it?! I made this blanket for my cousin's baby boy who is now a month old. I love, love, love this pattern. It's the Corner to Corner Blanket from Knit Baby Blankets by Gwen Steege. I used the LB Pound of Love yarn because they can only have acrylic(lots of allergies). It's great yarn, really. It washes up nice and soft and I only had 2 ends to weave in--you can't beat that. I don't know if I ever put the finished HP Pouch bag up, but here it is. Little Diva used it for Halloween and promptly lost interest so now it's mine(which I had sort of planned on all along--lol!) So the good news, for me, is that my stitching obligations for the remainder of the year are done and I've gotten the baby blanket monkey off my back SO now I can work on finishing Miss Stacey's Jaywalkers(they have moved up to priority one), my Jaywalkers, and whatever else I can squeeze in between now and January 1.

Jaywalker 3--halfway there!

Image
Half a finish. I finished half of Stacey's Jaywalker 3 sock yesterday. Yarn: Aspen Sock(Red Rock Fiberworks)/Sheep in the City colorway Needles: size 2 Pattern: Jaywalker sock from Mag knits(smaller cast on) I'll start the second after she gets a chance to try this one on and is sure she likes the fit :) I'll work on mine until I track her down. Nano '07--5124/50000 as of last night

Psuedo New Start

Image
Remember when I started the Textured Blanket(ie. the Dexterity Blanket from Hell)? I wanted to make my cousin a blanket for her upcoming baby and I thought the Textured Blanket would be cool and it would be if it wasn't such a pain in the butt to knit. I'm thinking that when you are hating every single row you are knitting that is probably NOT the best gift to give a new baby since baby gifts should be given with love. SO I ripped it out and started anew with this: The Corner to Corner blanket from Knit Baby Blankets by Gwen Steege. Things are going much better and I'm already passed the halfway mark. I can honestly say that THIS version is knit with a whole bunch of love.

On/Off the Needles

Image
Off the Needles Pattern: Danica(Knitty) Yarn: Patons SWS Needles: size 9 Thoughts: My first foray into entrelac. It was fun. And not too boring(I generally get really, really, really bored knitting scarves). This pattern would be super stunning in Noro--just putting it out there :) This is also a good project for Project Spectrum 2--lots of blue. What's on the needles right now? What needs to get on the needles soon: 1. my HP House afghan(Hufflepuff squares first) 2. a doll and a unicorn for Little Diva 3. some socks
