Barn Raisin'

Image
I have not been able to pull myself away from my Barn Raising squares. I gave my first 10 a bath yesterday and pseudo blocked them. Here's Barn Raising Quilt 1(aka. the primarily Socks that Rock quilt): **clockwise from top left--Algae, Lucy, Nodding Violet, Fire on the Mountain, Tres Campy(a lone Hello Yarn square). Barn Raising Quilt 2(aka. Diva's/communal family leftover quilt): I am going to TRY and knit on something else as well--I've got socks and things to finish people!

Bella's Fingerless Gloves

Image
Stitch-n-Snitch designed some fingerless gloves inspired by the Twilight Series of books. I've been wanting to make some since I saw the pattern and this weekend I took the plunge and managed to finish one while watching a movie Saturday night. The yarn is Knit Picks Swish which I happened to get a couple of skeins of in this Merlot Heather colorway. First, the yarn is SOOOOOOO soft. I just kept petting it as I was knitting with it. Second, the colorway reminded me of the werewolf contingent in the books. The warm brown with just a hint of red--definitely more wolf-ish than vampire-ish. Plus, I'm pulling for Jacob in the whole love triangle thing--not that there isn't a lot to love about Edward. Now, my model for the picture was little Diva. Stacey, you will appreciate that after she tried this on she said, "Mom, I REALLY want a pair of these--in pink." I'm thinking that maybe I should quit showing her what I'm working on.

Barn Raising Love/Possible Addiction

Image
As my stash is not really loaded with bright colors(which Diva is all about) I had to get a few skeins of stuff to brighten up her Barn Raising Blanket which I'm thinking will actually turn into the TV room Barn Raising Blanket--meaning it's for her, DH, and Rage--we'll see how that one goes over later. Otherwise I'll need to make a couple more blankets at some point(and no they probably won't all be this pattern). There are 4 skeins of ShiBuiKnits Sock and 1 skein of Pagewood Farm Hand Dyed Sock yarn(the cotton candy pink one). Why I love the Barn Raising Quilt : **I have been wanting something to do with my sock yarn leftovers and my substantial sock yarn stash. **the squares are easy to knit--perfect for knitting group knitting and TV time. **the squares are portable **it's fun to see how sock yarn patterns when it's used this way **it is something that will last longer than a sock does **it's something everyone can see, whereas sometimes socks are un...

Diva's Stabbing Socks are Fini

Image
I finished Diva's "Stabbing" socks as I so lovingly refer to them. As you can see they are fraternal. Diva doesn't care and it made them more interesting and less labor intensive to knit. Stats: Yarn: Opal Pattern: Classic Beginnings Socks for the Family(Wyman) Needles: size 2 dpns Now I have some squares to knit and I need to work on my cross stitch sampler. I hope all of you have something fun to keep you busy this weekend :)

Challenged

Image
This weekend was the HAED SAL Challenge Weekend and I pulled out Swimming with Dolphins. I aimed for about 200 stitches per day and I averaged just a touch over that for the weekend. I feel like I made significant progress; she has an upper body now and that's always a good thing ;) **clickable thumbnail** On the knitting front. I had rattled off a few more Barn Raising Squares last week. Now I have 5 out of about 84ish squares. Represented here are STR Nodding Violet, STR Lucy, and some leftover stuff that I believe was a Regia Cotton.

Wee Tiny Package :)

Image
I received my Wee Tiny Sock on Monday. It traveled here all the way from the Netherlands. Femke made me a sock out of Regia cotton--a very springy sock indeed. It made my day. Thanks, Femke, I love it! Still no word if my sock has finished its trek to the other side of the world, stay tuned :)

What are the odds. . .

of this yarn ending up in shops over here? Because I NEED at least 2 skeins in each colorway. Not that I'm an obsessed fan or anything.

Weekend Knitting

Image
This turned into a very productive knitting weekend for me. I think it was all the inspiration I gleaned from the Harlot's visit to Denver on Friday night. I finished one of the stabbing socks(as I now so lovingly refer to them). I made a lot of headway on it as I was waiting for the Harlot to speak. I was also inspired to start something else this weekend. The Barn Raising Quilt from the Knitalong book. This is going to be quite an addictive pattern. My plan is to make a blanket entirely out of Socks that Rock but I started out with a couple of practice squares from my bag of sock scraps which Diva informed me would be great for a blanket for her to watch TV under, SO this project may turn into two blankets instead of one--it's not like I don't have enough sock yarn for about 15 of them ;) I think what I am really enjoying about it is that I can whip off a square while sitting and watching TV and since the pattern is so easy to memorize and the squares are so portable it i...

Sock Knitting is Riddled with Danger People!

Image
I decided I was going to make a pair of socks for Diva(Rage and DH have requested a pair too) and she picked this lovely fluorescent Opal colorway. It's innocuous enough, right? Last night I sit down with Rage and Diva to watch Indiana Jones and start knitting away. Everything is going well until I drop one of my dpns and it goes into the recliner. It's happened before so I wasn't too stressed about it. I toss my knitting on the floor before climbing down myself to look under the chair. I can't see it right away but I hear it ping down to the floor. I reach around the chair for the lever to raise it so I can see under it and as I apply pressure to the lever I feel a sharp jab in my left knee. Do you want to take a guess as to what it was? It was one of the needles attached to sock that I threw on the floor. Apparently I was so focused on readjusting the chair that I didn't notice my knee coming down on the knitting. SO one of the dpns went INTO my leg--as in, about ...

March Wrap Up and April Goals

March Wrap up : Knitting: **Clapotis --I did plug along on Clapotis; it was my Project Spectrum Fire piece last month **I love Gansey socks--still languishing **Top down raglan--still hiding in a Miller Bag in my room. Stitching--actually there was a lot of stitching mojo for me last month: **Provence Sampler --I think we all remember the off center fiasco from earlier in the month. After much thought I DO intend to finish the piece and let the framers work some magic on it. **Swimming with Dolphins (my only "non red" item this month)--Worked on it during SAL Challenge Weekend **a possible new start which I have not narrowed down yet--I did not have a new start BUT I did bring out I Love Thee and I am STILL working on it. It even counts in the Project Spectrum Fire theme. -------------------------------------------------- April Goals I won't be participating in Project Spectrum for the "Earth" segment. Green, Brown, and metallics aren't really my bag, baby....
