Provence Sampler

Here's the minimal progress I made this last weekend on my Provence Sampler for the HAEDless SAL. Since I have allowed myself to come to terms with the fact that is piece is off center, I am actually enjoying stitching on it. I love working with just one color--it goes so quickly. But I won't be giving up my big a$$ projects in the near future, no worries there, the single color ones are a good break though.

Fairy Day

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

A tradition over at the HAED BB is the Fairy Day SAL and this year the SAL is a long one because Fairy Day falls on a Tuesday. I usually cannot participate in the SAL because I am not stitching on a fairy piece BUT that is about to change. Today, I'll be starting a new piece containing not one but two fairies. Right now there is nothing to see but there will be by next week :)

WWKIP Day

WWKIP

I think most of the Denver area knitting community will be knitting at Estes, but I will be here with the kiddos(I'm trying to save money for some Opal Harry Potter yarn in the fall). I'll do my part and either knit at the park or the pool or both :)

Enjoy the day!!

Skully Goodness

The last time I was in Disney World--10 years ago--the Disney pin trading thing was in its infancy. Well that is no more. Before we left we bought the kiddos each a lanyard and some starter pins(duplicates of the same pin so you have something to trade). I was excited for them because the Disney staff has to trade with you if they don't currently have your pin on their lanyard AND if you find a staff member with a green lanyard, they are only allowed to trade with children.

Diva and Rage traded some pins and purchased a couple to remind them of some of their favorite things in Disney--and believe it or not Rage did have one or two things he liked that actually had pins. Their park ID cards also fit into the lanyard; it makes for a great piece of memorabilia definitely unique to every trip. Diva will probably keep her lanyard on her American Girl doll and Rage will be keeping his on one of his build a bear bears(along with his mouse ears).

Now I had no intention of getting swept into the pin mania. I actually went to Disney on a mission to find a cool watch. We did end up getting a watch but I didn't find THE watch--you know the one that screams, "I have to have this."

SO as I was searching through pins with the kiddos(looking for theirs and souvenirs for their friends) I may have found a couple(cough, cough) of pins that really appealed to me. But first, of course, I needed a lanyard--mine was very much pirate inspired(go figure). I didn't need a thing to carry my ID so instead I settled for a medallion for the end of my lanyard. And it's a pretty bad ass Mickey head if I do say so myself.

My neighbor had given me a Pirates of the Caribbean pin when she returned from Disney in May, then I saw this:

And this:

And this:

And here's the finished product:

There is also a Chef Mickey pin, a Tower of Terror room key pin, and a Mickey head. I LOVE IT!! And I really had to stop myself from buying about a hundred other pins. They had some Pirate Princess pins that were VERY cool.

Since I can't wear my lanyard around all the time here--well I guess I could, but I won't--I got this key chain for the knitting bag. It's a 3D version of my Mickey Skully pin.

Who knew Disney had gotten so edgy?

Oh, and as an aside. I have two favorite rides in Disney. One is the Tower of Terror and the other is Pirates of the Caribbean. I got to ride Tower of Terror but Pirates of the Caribbean was closed when I was there which sucked. They should tell you this stuff when you are making reservations.

Happiest Place on Earth?

We just got back from 6 days in Walt Disney World. Fun was had by almost all in our family.

DH and I have always loved Disney so we knew we'd have a great time. It was the kiddos first time and we were both excited to share one of our favorite places with them.

Diva LOVED it. Loved everything about it. She got scared on Expedition Everest, The Tower of Terror, and Test Track but she soldiered on and didn't complain. A majority of her time there was spent laughing and staring in wonder at everything.

Rage, on the other hand, dear Rage. The stories of travel with this child will become legend--at least in our family. He loved both airports and flights. He loved both bus rides--to and from the resort. He loved the buses, boats, and monorails that take you around the Disney property. He loved the hotel and the pool. But. . .and you know a but is coming. He hated the parks--all. . .four. . .parks. And I am not talking about just being a little upset. I'm talking about a child who would be dragged up to rides screaming, "I HATE RIDES" at the top of his lungs and continue screaming for the entire ride or until we took him away from it--then the screaming settled to a dull roar. It got to the point where one of us would take Diva on a ride and one of us would stand out in the heat listening to Rage scream about the injustice of not being able to stay at the hotel and swim. I think if he had the vocabulary to curse at us and give us obscene finger gestures that would have been happening too. The boy hates Disney World. I was assured by many parents and employees that this behavior is not at all unusual for kiddos his age(5). But I have news for Rage--the next time we go to Disney he'll be staying with Grandma and Grandpa and we'll take one of his cousins(unless there is a RADICAL change in his attitude over the next few years).

I'll share more later--I got some fabulous skully loot while I was there :)
